Sausage & Cream Cheese Pinwheels

Sausage & Cream Cheese Pinwheels

The easiest party appetizer ever — and yes, you can make them diabetic-friendly!

If you grew up loving warm, cheesy sausage bites fresh from the oven, then these Sausage & Cream Cheese Pinwheels will feel like pure nostalgia. They’re golden, flaky, savory, and ridiculously easy — the kind of recipe you whip up once and then keep making because everyone asks for them again.

Great for brunch, potlucks, game day, freezer prep, or a quick family snack, these little spirals pack big flavor in every bite. And don’t worry — I’ve included a low-carb / diabetic-friendly version too!

🛒 Ingredients

Classic Version:

  • 1 lb breakfast sausage (pork or turkey)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough

Low-Carb Version:

Use low-carb tortilla wraps or fathead dough instead of crescent rolls.

Fathead Dough Option:

  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup almond flour

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Cook the sausage

Brown sausage in a skillet. Drain excess grease.
Mix in softened cream cheese until creamy. Stir in cheddar.

2️⃣ Prepare the dough

Classic:
Roll out crescent dough into a rectangle and pinch seams together.

Low-Carb:
Roll out fathead dough between 2 sheets of parchment into a thin rectangle.

3️⃣ Spread the filling

Evenly spread the sausage/cheese mixture over the dough.

4️⃣ Roll it up

Roll tightly from one long edge to the other, forming a log.

5️⃣ Slice

Cut into ½-inch slices (your photo shows perfect clean spirals).

6️⃣ Bake

Place on a parchment-lined sheet.
Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes, or until golden.
